Refractive Surgery
Some vision problems can be treated with refractive surgery. This is the case with myopia (defect in far vision), hyperopia (defect in near vision), astigmatism (defect in far and near vision). What these refractive defects have in common is an error in the trajectory of the light rays causing blurred vision in the absence of optical correction permanently
How does the Eye work?
Each eye is unique, with its own optical and architectural properties. The quality of vision is largely determined by the size and shape of our eyes.
With normal vision, the dimensions of the different structures of the eye are in harmony, especially the curvature of the cornea with the axial length of the eye. The image perceived by the eye is then projected exactly onto the retina (focus) and is clearly perceived by the brain.
If these structures are inconsistent, the image is not correctly perceived, which results in "Refractive error" such as Myopia, Hypermetry or Astigmatism.
The eye is too long, the image forms in front of the retina
= Poor distance vision.
The eye is too short, the image forms behind the retina
= Poor near vision (and far after 40 years)
The cornea is irregular (rugby ball)
= Blurry and distorted image

Operative Techniques
- Femto Lasik, which combines Femtosecond and Excimer laser is the reference technique for myopia under 10 diopters, except for too thin corneas.
- For very strong Myopia and strong Astigmatism, or in the event of a contraindication for excimer laser, intraocular implantation by refracting implants is the possible alternative.
Frequently asked questions
The laser treatments are carried out with the help of anesthetic eye drops. The patient feels no pain during the operation. Since the operation is usually completed within a period as short as 15 minutes for each eye. The complaints experienced after the operation in lasik treatment (burn, watering, blurred vision, etc.) usually lasts for 5-6 hours. In other words, the patients can perform their daily activities the next day
Patients with soft lenses are advised to stop using their lenses at least one week before treatment, while this period is at least three weeks for those with hard lenses. It is recommended that the patient wear comfortable clothes and avoid applying makeup or perfume.
Immediately after the treatment, the patient is given 2 eye drops containing antibiotics and steroids for comforting the patients and these eye drops are used every hour. The next day, the dose of the medication is decreased and these drops are used for a week. It is important that the patient doesn't swim or rub his/her eyes for the first week.
