Periodontology
To maintain healthy teeth, it is also essential to ensure the health of your gums and to remove subgingival tartar deposits, for this our clinic offers you the best technologies and experts in paodontics.
What is Periodontology?
Periodontology is the discipline dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the underlying gum tissue and bone.
These diseases are gingivitis and periodontitis. Commonly, we speak of "loosening of the teeth" because they lead to the loss of teeth.
The periodontist prevents, diagnoses and treats gingivitis and periodontitis, as well as their after-effects. It also ensures the replacement of missing teeth by bone grafting and implant surgery techniques. He also treats gingival recessions with periodontal root-covering plastic surgery techniques.
How to know if you have Gingivitis or Periodontitis?
It is important not to wait for the first clinical signs (pain, bleeding, etc.). The infection can spread around the teeth and deep down for years without any visible signs.
The disease can be diagnosed with a dental plaque sample taken under a microscope.
- What is Periodontal disease?
Gingivitis is the first stage: bacteria colonize the gum-tooth junction, and trigger inflammation of the gum. The swelling gums become red and painful, peel away from the tooth and this is the door open to the penetration of tartar under the gum; It's a vicious cycle that sets in. If left untreated, gingivitis leads to periodontitis.
In Periodontitis begins the destruction of the jawbone and the fibers that anchor the teeth; Periodontal pockets then form in which bacteria accumulate, leading to loosening of the teeth and their loss. In some situations, a purulent discharge may appear.
- The signs that should alert:
Bleeding on brushing or spontaneous, swollen, sensitive, darker gums.
Teeth that appear longer, gum that retracts, tooth mobility or displacement, bad breath, diffuse sensation of discomfort or pain.
- To confirm the diagnosis and assess the severity of the disease, the periodontist will:
- Perform a complete clinical examination of the mouth,
- Take an x-ray to visualize the bone loss,
- Measure the depth of the periodontal pockets using a thin probe,
- Visualize the germs present by a sample in the pocket and study it instantaneously using a microscope.
What happens if you don't start Treatment at the Onset of Symptoms?
If left untreated, bacteria will continue to multiply and secrete toxins that will cause inflammation and progressive destruction of the bone.
When there is no longer enough bone to hold the teeth in place, they become mobile. In the advanced stage, abscesses may appear, the teeth are too loose to stay on the arch and will need to be extracted. Importantly, periodontal disease can have an effect on the general health of the patient.
Tooth Pain
Tooth pain can be caused by various problems. Oral examination can help determine the cause.Broken or Chipped Tooth
Chipped teeth can be treated either by cosmetic bonding or porcelain restoration.Cavities & Decay
We use modern technology to detect decay in the earliest stages, saving and preserving your teeth.Tooth Stains
We offer a couple of whitening procedures to brighten your teeth and return the smile yo tour face.Current treatments are painless and use highly specialized equipment and new laser treatment technologies
New specialized equipment has been developed allowing the bacteria to be viewed live and eliminated by non-surgical techniques. The so-called access flap techniques where the gum is lifted are heavier on the patient, have unfavorable side effects on the tissues and often do not definitively solve the bacterial infectious problem.
• The microscope
It makes it possible to no longer work blindly in the pockets and therefore no longer leave germs. It helps recognize microbes and refine our treatment based on the germs identified.
• Mechanical instruments
More efficient, equipped with extremely thin inserts, they eliminate the need for manual curettes that damage the cement layer that covers the root of the tooth.
• The scale detector
It is an instrument that is coupled with ultrasound and which emits a signal as long as there is tartar in the pocket, which allows us to control extremely precisely the quality of our lithotripsy without having to open surgically. to watch.
• The laser
It is an instrument for deep disinfection and bio-stimulation of periodontal tissues (gums, ligament, bone).
The Laser used in periodontology has a wavelength located in the infrared which means that the radiations present no danger and no contraindication even in pregnant women. Simple eye protection is necessary (filter glasses).
- It penetrates deep into the gum tissue and causes deep decontamination by eliminating pathogenic bacteria responsible for periodontal disease. In particular strains resistant to antibiotics.
- It helps reduce inflammation and pain.
- It has a bio-stimulating effect on bone cells and therefore stimulates the healing and regeneration of the jawbone.
- It helps in the decontamination and preparation of bone sites requiring dental implants.
- Today it has become an irreplaceable instrument in the treatment of periodontitis, in the prevention of heaving, in prophylaxis and maintenance care.
- The treatments have become more comfortable, without postoperative pain, without significant drug addition and without contraindications even in pregnant women. The results are more stable with a better aesthetic result.
- The L.A.S.E.R. can also treat other mouth diseases such as canker sores, herpes and other mouth ulcers.
- It helps treat infections around implants (peri-implantitis).
- It is used for prevention during annual prophylaxis care as soon as the gum shows signs of tenderness or detachment.
- The laser is also used in the aesthetic context of tooth whitening which can be performed in the office at the end of treatment.
